Hummingbird Feeders InformationFeeding hummingbirds is an enjoyable, fun way to interact with wildlife. Hummingbirds are usually not picky over the type of hummingbird feeder they feed from, so choosing your hummingbird feeder is a matter of personal taste. Urban Garden offers several styles of hummingbird feeders to choose from, all handmade with recycled glass. Best Bets for Hummingbird Feeders Place your hummingbird feeder in an area that can be easily observed for entertainment, and also out of direct sunlight to help preserve the nectar mix. If feeding hummingbirds is new to your garden, place the hummingbird feeder near plants and flowers that naturally attract hummingbirds. This will help hummingbirds find your feeder quickly. Keep your hummingbird feeder filled with fresh nectar mix to keep hummingbirds coming back to the feeder. Hummingbirds will quickly learn that the nectar mix has spoiled and stop visiting the feeder. Clean your hummingbird feeder frequently to prevent mold and bacteria growth. Nectar mix is easy to make. Use one part ordinary white cane sugar to four parts tap water. Completely dissolve the sugar into the water by stirring, or you may heat the water to help the sugar dissolve. You may store unused nectar mix in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. And, contrary to popular belief, there is no need to add red food coloring to the mix or to increase the ratio of sugar to water. Neither practice will encourage hummingbirds to feed more frequently from your hummingbird feeder. Top of Page |
